"Falling Leaves" Art Exhibit Opening Reception September 21st

Friends of Skamokawa presents "Falling Leaves" art exhibit. September 21-October 29. This open media art exhibit echoes the autumn theme of fall colors. A creative variety of media including acrylic, watercolor, photography, clay, ceramic, and beading. Various artists techniques will be on display. Artists include: Mitzi Christensen, Noreen Fitts, George Borg, Ruth Doumit, Beth Bailey, Carol Bodreau, and Adrienne Stacey. “Falling Leaves” will run from September 21^st through October 29^th. The artists will be present at the opening reception Saturday September 21^st 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Skamokawa’s River Life Interpretive Center/Central School/Redmen Hall, 1394 W. Wine Tasting and Auction Benefit

The Friends of Skamokawa Foundation will host its Twenty-ninth Annual Wine Tasting and Auction Benefit, "A Cornucopia of Wines" on Saturday September 14, 2019. The event will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Skamokawa Grange, 18 Fairgrounds Road in Historic Downtown Skamokawa. The wine portion of the event features fine wines from around the world for sampling by participants as well as a variety of appetizers for attendees to enjoy. During the wine tasting, guests will have the opportunity to bid on an extensive variety of unique, specialty items created by local artists, artisans, and photographers. Generous businesses and individuals have donated gift certificates for getaways to bed and breakfasts, fine dining and hotel stays, river kayaking, original art pieces, vintage items, ceramic pieces, and much more. Proceeds from the event will go towards the maintenance, upkeep, and continued care of Skamokawa’s Historic River Life Interpretive Center/Central School/Redmen Hall.  

All area residents, businesses, and visiting guests are invited to attend the Wine Tasting Auction event and to participate as sponsors and donors. Advance tickets are available for $15 each (2 for $25) or at the door for $20 each (2 for $30). Dear Friends, we are back to our regular hours of Thursday through Sunday, 12:00 to 4:00 PM. Our current exhibit Down on the Farm features an historical presentation of the Skamokawa Farmers Creamery Association 1898 through 1943. The painting of the Redmen Hall/1894 Central School is now complete and restored to its original color scheme.
The Friends of Skamokawa Board of Directors would like to acknowledge community members who donated coins and cash in our collection boxes, groups and private citizens who donated funds to paint for this historical gem.
Thank you to Ken Gomes Construction paint crew for outstanding paint work, Steve Puddicombe for building inspection, J&K Construction for building repairs, and Lucien Swerdloff of Clatsop Community College Historic Preservation Program who evaluated our building.
We are indebted to our talented grant writers Carol Carver and Jessica Schiek for obtaining grant funds from the Kinsman Foundation Historic Preservation Organization.
For the past few years with community help Friends of Skamokawa has been able to restore the bell tower, repair structural damage under the building, and add a new roof, and now a new coat of paint. This would not be possible were it not for a community who truly cares to preserve its history.

We are open today Thurs (12-4), Fri (12-4), Sat (12-4), and Sun (12-4). Our welcoming volunteers will be greeting guests and visitors during those hours. Our current exhibit is an historic presentation of the Skamokawa Creamery Farmers Association, 1898 through 1943. From Coast Weekly; SKAMOKAWA, WA — Friends of Skamokawa is proud to present its summer 2019 exhibit titled "Down on the Farm," a historical text and photo display of the Skamokawa Farmers Creamery 1898-1943.

The exhibit features research by noted local author Irene Martin runs from June 1st through August 31st.
Visitors will learn of the remarkable success of this early creamery co-op located originally on the banks of the Columbia River in Skamokawa. The creamery produced award-winning butter with a large market including Astoria, Portland and San Francisco.
Photos and text reflect the creamery growth and prosperity along with its demise.

We are open for the Fourth of July

The painters are off today for the Fourth of July which means we are open 12:00 to 4:00 PM. We are then closed on Friday, July 5th for painting and re-open Saturday and Sunday, July 6th and 7th, 12-4:00.
